Start-Up Nation comes to Penn

Come back to campus for an analysis of Israel's economy

Former US Senior Foreign Policy Adviser and New York Times best-selling author Dan Senor will be discussing his latest book, Start-Up Nation: The Story of Israel's Economic Miracle. A dessert reception and book signing will follow the talk.

Admission to the talk includes a complimentary, signed copy of the book. (Copies are limited and if there are more attendees than expected, books will be distributed first to students, and only after that to other attendees.)

More information on the book is available at Amazon.com.

About Dan Senor and "Start-Up Nation"

Dan Senor, Adjunct Senior Fellow for Middle East Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, has served on the front lines of policy making both in Washington and the Middle East, holding senior positions in the White House and with the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq. He has studied in Israel and at Harvard Business School and has traveled extensively throughout the Arab world. A frequent contributor to the Wall Street Journal, Senor has also authored pieces for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Weekly Standard and Time.
"Start-Up Nation," which Senor co-authored with Saul Singer, addresses the trillion dollar question: How is it that Israel - a country of 7.1 million, only 60 years old, surrounded by enemies, in a constant state of war since its founding, with no natural resources - produces more start-up companies than large, peaceful, and stable nations like Japan, China, India, Korea, Canada, and the UK? How is it that Israel has more companies on the tech-oriented NASDAQ stock exchange than any country outside the US - more than all of Europe, India, and China combined? With the savvy of foreign policy insiders, Senor and Singer examine the lessons of Israel's adversity-driven culture, and how it blends with a national ethos that flattens hierarchy and elevates informality, all backed up by unique government policies focused on innovation.
This talk is sponsored by Hillel, The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, and other organizations.
